Shazam is a mobile app for smartphones that is designed to recognise music and sounds around you. The app is particularly popular when it comes to music as thousands of songs can be recognised and then downloaded at the simple touch of a button. Shazam was first introduced in 1999, in 2008 it was one of the first apps in the new Apple store and is now used by 12 billion people worldwide. When you hear a song or audio clip that you do not recognise, you can hit the Shazam button and an audio clip will be compared with a central database. Shazam will then make a match. If a match is made, it is sent straight back to your phone and you will be told the song title, the artist and the album that the song comes from. At times, Shazam will also include links back to other music servers such as iTunes or Spotify so that you can listen to your chosen song straight away. Shazam’s mobile apps have been downloaded and used mo0re than 1 billion times as of October 2016 and in 2013 it even reached the top 10 most popular apps in the world. Shazam is also available as a paid app called Shazam Encore, which provides an enhanced experience.
The Shazam website gives you any extra information you might need about Shazam as well as giving you access to thousands of songs and playlists. The website will tell you how many times a particular song has been tagged with Shazam. You can log in to your Shazam account (where all of your tagged songs and audio will be saved) using a username and password or you can log in with your Facebook account. Please note that by doing this, Shazam may post for you about the songs that you are tagging. The website will tell you the top 100 in many different countries, including the global top 100. You can listen to a sample of any of the songs that are available on the Shazam website. Shazam has teamed up with a number of big brands such as Macy’s, Coca-Cola and McDonald’s. McDonald’s and Coca Cola at the moment have teamed up with Shazam to create the biggest karaoke competition of all time. There will be a Shazam label on certain McDonald’s cups that can be scanned. Users will then be given a song to sing Karaoke using the app. The winner will be awarded with an amazing VIP experience.
